Passing Score

The passing score for each section of the ExAC is established after the exam sitting, by the ExAC team, following analysis of the results. These passing scores are not made public.

The passing scores are determined based on the content and difficulty level of the exam questions. Methods used include the Angoff method and its variants, which use a panel of experts. A group of architects determines the degree of difficulty of each question in relation to the minimum level of competence required to practise the profession. Subsequently, statistical test analysis experts use statistical data to check that the passing scores are valid and reliable.
