Do I need to have a minimum number of hours in the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) experience categories in order to be eligible for the ExAC?<\/h3>\n \n\n

No, there are no per-category minimums required as part of the ExAC experience requirement qualification. Your 2800 hours of approved experience can be allocated to any combination of hours<\/strong> in the IAP experience categories.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n \n\n\n

Refer to the licence agreement of your electronic edition of the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) and\/or National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB). You are responsible to comply with the Copyright Act of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n \n\n\n

Can I print the NBC or NECB revisions and errata and bring them along when I write the ExAC?<\/h3>\n \n\n

There are no current revisions or errata that is in force for either the NBC 2020 or the NECB 2020. Revisions or errata that may come into force in 2025 will not apply to the 2025 ExAC and should NOT be included in your copy of either the NBC or NECB.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n \n\n\n

Is the ExAC offered more than once a year?<\/h3>\n \n\n

No. The ExAC is administered once per year, simultaneously across Canada. Please see the Registration<\/a> section for the date of the next sitting.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n \n\n\n

Can an error have been made in the marking of my exam?<\/h3>\n \n\n

The ExAC is marked in accordance with a rigorous methodology that minimizes the risk of error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first part, with multiple-choice questions, is marked by computer, which provides a high degree of precision. In addition, statistical test analysis experts apply various methods during the marking process to ensure that the answer sheets have been properly completed and that the right results are attributed to the right people. With these verification methods, the risk of error is virtually nil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second part, with open-ended questions, is marked by architects, using valid, reliable correction grids. The grids are created in close collaboration with the question writers and the statistical test analysis experts, and then reviewed and approved by the Committee for the ExAC. Moreover, the architects who perform the marking have received training on error avoidance and on how to mark every exam in a uniform manner. Lastly, each answer is marked by at least two architects. If their evaluations of a particular answer are divergent, that answer is marked a third time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
